Make Everyday World Health Day

On this 7th day of April 2010, the international community is celebrating the World Health Day. This year, the celebration is focused on urbanization and its impact to health – 1000 Cities. 1000 Lives. Cities around the world will join the celebration by conducting different programs and activities that will open for a healthful place for everyone. People are also encouraged to share stories of community health champions, so as to empower and motivate everyone else to make their own fight for good health.

Urbanization is here to stay, and we can only expect that it will result to an even greater health related problems brought by living in overcrowded areas that is so distressed with pollution. In the next two decades, it is estimated that 6 out of every 10 people will be living in cities. This means that more people will be exposed to the health problems brought by serious issues with urban water systems, air state, social environment, unhealthy diets, alcohol and drug abuse, as well as disease outbreaks.

Health organizations and the government have their own programs to run. What about you, what can you do to help weaken the effect of these problems? There are lots of people who will be living in slums. At this point, both the inhabitants of such an area and the local government can set rules and cleaning programs in order to make the place a healthier environment. Educating people about the benefits of such rules and programs will likely make them become more cooperative. In some urban areas, proper waste segregation and management proved to be of great help. Teaching the community about such simple ways of managing waste products within their homes, and providing them with things necessary for proper waste disposal can be an effective start. As individuals, the love for our own health and of our loved ones can be enough motivation.

May everyone make everyday World Health Day
